Selecting the Right Size Roller Skating Boots and Plates

It can be a very exciting day when you decide to buy some skates. I get calls frequently from customers not knowing what size boot they should buy or size plate that they need. One way to start is to look for sizing charts. Most of the major companies provide these charts on their websites. Also, you can find them on several internet skate stores, as well. Here are a few additional guidelines that I think will be helpful to you in your shopping.

Regarding the boots, not all boots are the same. Generally, if you are buying a low top boot, all the boots are in men’s sizes. Let’s put it a little differently. If you are a woman wearing a size 7 shoe, you should select a size 6 boots. This is true whether the boot is black or white. When you are looking for a high top boot, all black boots unless stated by the manufacturer are in men’s sizes. All white boots are in women’s sizes. This is for all adult boots not children’s boots. Usually boots under size 5 are true to size whether they are men’s or women’s.

Many customers are concerned that they will get the wrong plate size when they order boots and plates separately. If you want a “standard” mount, most warehouses will be able to get you the right plate as long as you tell them the size boot you will put them on. If you want a “short mount”, make sure that it is clearly stated in your order.

The best place to buy your boots and plates is online. One of the great concerns of many customers is that they are unable to try on the boots before they buy them. Customers are scared that the boots will not fit. That is a very real concern. Because online skate stores offer prices that are substantially lower than brick and mortar stores, you probably would still want to buy from them. Put check carefully their website and make sure you understand the return policy. If they do not accept returns or charge you a restocking fee, move on! There are roller skating stores online that do not charge restocking fees and will work with the customer when they have a problem.

Skating is fun so get the best boots and plates that you can afford. Get out of the house and have fun!
